Oilfield fishing involves removing stuck or lost equipment from a well so operations can continue. This can include pipe, tools, or debris in the hole, and resolving it depends on understanding the cause of the issue and selecting the right approach.

Fishing is a specific type of well intervention used to retrieve stuck or lost equipment from a well. Well intervention is a broader category that includes a range of operations aimed at maintaining or restoring well performance, including diagnostics, repairs, and other corrective work.

Open hole fishing occurs in an uncased section of the wellbore, where conditions can be less predictable because the formation is exposed. Cased hole fishing is performed inside casing or liner, where the wellbore is more controlled. The approach, tools, and level of complexity can vary depending on the environment and what is stuck in the well.

Not always. In some cases, what appears to be a fishing job can be resolved through other methods once the situation is properly assessed. Taking the time to understand the root cause can help avoid unnecessary work, added risk, and downtime.

If you’re looking for a second opinion on your well conditions or planned approach, reach out to a member of our team.
